  • Vierne – Complete Piano Works III

Vierne, LouisThe Last Works- Urtext Edition of Louis Vierne’s “Complete Piano Works” in three volumes- Critical edition based on all available sources- Includes two previously unpublished works- With an extensive foreword (Fr/Ger/Eng), Critical Commentary and facsimile pages
Louis Vierne is best-known as a famous organist and composer of organ music. Less well-known, as it was not part of his public life but was to a large extent reserved for private circles, was the fact that he was also an outstanding pianist.
His piano works were praised by his contemporaries for their compositional refinement, fine sonority as well as frequent virtuosic passages and are on the same artistic level as his organ works.
The third volume of the chronologically arranged edition of Vierne’s works includes “ Silhouettes d’enfants ” op. 43 in the tradition of 19th century children’s pieces and the major work of his later creative period, the four-movement cycle “ Solitude ” op. 44. It also includes two pieces which only survive in manuscript form, published here for the first time.

  • Various Composers: Easy Pieces of the 17th & 18th Centuries, Bk.1

The publication contains 25 simple compositions, which were selected by Alois Sarauer and Drahomira Krizkova, and is designed for intermediate pupils. These are piano pieces of many important figures of European Baroque music (H. Purcell, J.-Ph. Rameau, G. Ph. Telemann, J. Krieger, D. Zipoli) and particularly German Classicism (J. Ch. F. Bach, L. Mozart, J. Ph. Kirnberger, Ch. G. Neefe and others), of which most bear the titles of typical period dances. The selection therefore represents a highly appropriate repertoire of recital works.

  • Sassmannshaus – Christmas for Beginner String Ensembles

Christmas is a time for making music, especially in ensembles. This edition with its very easy arrangements for two violins, viola and cello is ideal for beginner string players to get into the Christmas spirit. The 27 pieces are based either on works of Baroque composers such as Lully or Handel, or on traditional, mostly German, Christmas carols. One of the pieces requires an additional violin, another a viola. With their uncomplicated structure and accompanying parts which tie in closely with the melody, these pieces encourage ensemble playing from an early age.

  • Bach – Six Partitas BWV 825-830

Johann Sebastian Bach’s ‘six partitas’ BWV 825–830 represent the pinnacle of his keyboard suites. In the search for the greatest variety of stylistic and compositional techniques, the collection shows itself to have the status of a ‘musical art book’. In keeping with this, Bach had these most prestigious works printed at his own expense as Part I of the ‘Clavier Übung ’.This expanded new edition takes into consideration not only the revised main text of the ‘six partitas’ but also, for the first time evaluates printed copies known to have been used by Bach and his closest circle and copies made by his circle of pupils. These include annotations on ornamentation and valuable hints on performance practice which are invaluable for present-day musicians. This is the first extensive edition to take all existing sources into account. The editor is the British musicologist Richard Douglas Jones, well-known for his numerous discoveries and publications on Bach.Bach’s Six Partitas are also published in an edition with fingerings by the renowned Bach interpreter Ragna Schirmer.

  • Bach – The Well-Tempered Clavier II BWV 870-893

Volume 2 of the „WTC“ has survived in two distinct manuscript traditions. Till now, all printed editions have combined these two traditions into a single hybrid edition, „preferring now this reading, now that one, at the editor’s discretion “ (A. Dürr). Our volume presents each piece in the version containing the largest number of Bach’s subsequent changes; significant variants from the other version are added as alternatives. A detailed preface by the editor discusses the source material and performance practice, including the execution of ornaments.

  • Handel – Keyboard Works I – The Eight Great Suites

Throughout his life Handel was famous as a brilliant performer on keyboard instruments, and he began composing for them in his youth: his early training under Zachow included the study of the most important 17th-century German composers for the keyboard, and their influence can be seen in the harpsichord music which he had written by the time he left Hamburg for Italy in 1706. He seems to have taken it up again only after he settled in England in 1712, and during the next few years he wrote a large number of harpsichord works, with a peak about 1717, when he was becoming involved with the music at Cannons.Apparently Handel was in no hurry to publish these compositions, and manuscript copies were made for friends and patrons. The primary source for our text is the third impression of the Cluer edition. As well as the Walsh, le Cène and Leclerc editions there are important manuscript sources, including some autographs, which give much additional information concerning the text.

  • Beethoven – Symphony No. 9 in D minor op. 125 Critical Commentary

    Scoring: Picc.2.2.2.2.Kontra – 4.2.3.0 – Timp.Perc – Strings
Between 1996 and 2000 Bärenreiter published scholarly-critical editions of Beethoven’s Nine Symphonies edited by the first-class musicologist Jonathan Del Mar. The editorial process was a massive undertaking because of the complex source situation regarding Beethoven’s Symphonies culminating in the Choral Symphony which came down to us in nearly 20 different sources. So it was unsurprising that Bärenreiter’s new Urtext edition caused a considerable stir in the music world.
Since its publication, Del Mar’s edition enjoys the unabashed praise of conductors, performers and critics alike. It has become the most widely used publication of the Beethoven Symphonies which can be heard not only every day in concert halls but also on CD recordings by John Eliot Gardiner, David Zinman, Jos van Immerseel and Claudio Abbado.

  • Twardowski – At The Zoo
