Barenreiter Mendelssohn – Sonatas Βιβλίο για Πιάνο και Βιολί
This is the first Urtext edition of Mendelssohn’s Sonatas for Violin and Piano. It contains the early Sonata in F major of 1820 and the Sonata in F minor of 1823, which the 14-year-old composer began with an extended solo recitative for the violin. The edition also includes two versions of the F major sonata of 1838 which Mendelssohn began revising in 1839, though this was restricted to the revision of a major part of the first movement.
These works, similar in difficulty to Franz Schubert’s Sonatinas , are published here in a scholarly-practical edition. The critical edition contains all Mendelssohn’s complete sonatas for these instruments. Hoshino’s Critical Commentary offers valuable information on the history and genesis of the compositions and their sources. Several facsimile pages complete this important new edition.
– First Urtext edition of Mendelssohn’s Violin Sonatas (including facsimile pages)
– With an Urtext violin part, together with a second version of the violin part including fingerings and bowings by Takeshi Kiriyama
– Moderate technical standard

Barenreiter Handel – Complete Works for Violin & Basso Continuo Βιβλίο για βιολί
Handel returned repeatedly throughout his life to the composition of works for violin and basso continuo.
The earliest autograph, HWV 358, was composed around 1707, his last work for this combination of instruments, the Sonata in D major, HWV 371, stems from circa 1750.
In addition to the 5 sonatas, which have survived as autographs, there are 4 other sonatas of a spurious nature which have found a place in the violin repertoire under Handel’s name although they are certainly not from his pen. These sonatas are attempts by other unknown composers to make a name by using the style of the great master. To round off this first ever publication of Handel’s Complete Works for Violin and Basso continuo, there are two movements currently not available in any other performing edition: the Allegro, HWV 408 and an Andante, HWV 412.
The Authoritative Performing Edition
– Edition with the recently-revised Urtext of the Halle Handel Edition
– First ever performing edition of the complete works for violin and basso continuo in one volume
– With separate violin and continuo bass parts, the latter with figures
– Basso continuo part with figures including 2 movements not available in any other performing edition
– Includes valuable comments on performance practice
– An Associated Board recommended title

Barenreiter Handel – Three Trio Sonatas For 2 Violins & Basso Continuo Βιβλίο για βιολί
The three Trio Sonatas in this edition were taken from the sonata collection published in London by John Walsh in 1739. Since hardly any chamber music compositions have come down to us from Handel’s later years other than the well-known D major Violin Sonata, these Trio Sonatas can be considered as one of Handel’s last contributions to the field of instrumental chamber music.
The first edition specifies two violins or flutes as melody instruments for the Op.5 Sonatas. However, since scoring indications, particularly in instrumental chamber music, were taken very liberally at that time, it is also perfectly legitimate to play these works in other instrumental combinations (for example, violin and flute).

Barenreiter Dvorak – Sonata In F Major Op.57 Βιβλίο για Πιάνο και Βιολί
Dvorak’s Violin Sonata is regarded as the chamber counterpart to his Violin Concerto in A minor, as its understated, more intimate and private complement. The composer wrote it during a period separating two versions of his concerto, in the spring of 1880, and he first performed the work for a private audience in Berlin with Josef Joachim. It was published by Simrock that same year. This current edition was supervised by Antonin Pokorny and Karel Solc and is issued as part of the first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.

Barenreiter Bach – Six Sonatas Vol.1 For Violin And Obbligato Harpsichord Βιβλίο για βιολί
Six Sonatas Vol.1 (I-III) BWV 1014-1016 (Set of Parts)
Twenty-five years after Johann Sebastian Bach’s death his son Carl Philipp Emanuel praised his father’s trio sonatas, stating that “still today they sound great, even though they are older than fifty years.” What a compliment about works of a genre that was notoriously fast to adapt to new styles and fashions in the eighteenth century! Still today, Bach’s sonatas are considered masterpieces of Baroque counterpoint. Yet they might surprise anyone who expects them to feature the usual combination of two flutes or violins and figured bass. As in all of Bach’s trio sonatas (except those for solo organ), there is only one melody instrument, as two of the three voices are played by the two hands of the obbligato harpsichord.
The sonatas for violin and obbligato harpsichord BWV 1014-1016 are a single sonata cycle with a remarkable expressive range: The melancholic, even lamenting sonorities of the first and fourth sonatas are contrasted by the serenity of the second or the virtuosity of the third sonata.
This revised edition is based on manuscript copies by several of Bach’s pupils, as well as on the Urtext of the “New Bach Edition”. The edition comprises a harpsichord score, a part for a bass string instrument as well as both an Urtext violin part and a second violin part, annotated with fingering and bowing along with notes on performance practice. A detailed Preface (Ger/Eng) and a Critical Commentary (Ger/Eng) are also included.

Barenreiter Bach – Two Sonatas And A Fugue for Violin & Basso Continuo Βιβλίο για βιολί
This new edition supersedes the earlier performance edition of sonatas BWV 1021 and 1023 published in the New Bach Edition. Like other volumes recently issued in revised editions – Sonatas and Partitas for Violin (BA 5116), Partita for Flute (BA 5187), and Six Sonatas for Violin and Obbligato Harpsichord in one volume (BA 5240) and in two volumes (BA 5118-19) – these two sonatas have been re-evaluated on the basis of newly unearthed sources. The Fugue BWV 1026, long considered spurious, appears here for the first time in a scholarly-critical edition that places Bach’s authorship above reproach.

Barenreiter Telemann – Three Duets Βιβλίο για ορχήστρα
Hortus Musicus
Telemann wrote the present three pieces taken from his “Der getreue Music-Meister”, as domestic music for two instruments. With his keen practical sense he kept the range and technical difficulty within such limits as would permit the greatest possible number of different instrumental combinations to perform the pieces. By means of different clef signs he made it possible to allot to the individual instruments the keys most suitable to them.

Barenreiter Smetana – From The Homeland Βιβλίο για Πιάνο και Βιολί
These two duets were written during Smetana’s last phase of composition (1880), and were published with the poetic title ‘ From the Homeland’ . At this time, the composer, who was deaf, was living a secluded life with his daughter Zofie’s family in a hunting lodge at Jabkenice near Mladá Boleslav (Czech Republic).
The duets were written at the instigation of Prince Alexander of Thurn und Taxis, a son of the estate owner, who was himself a good violinist. They were published for the first time in 1881 by Frantisek Augustin Urbánek in Prague . The composer himself wrote that the duets are “in lighter style, more for domestic use than concert performance but without ruling it out completely, in true nationalist style, however with my own melodies.”
The musical text of the new edition is based on the ‘ Study Edition of the Works of Bedrich Smetana’ , Vol. XV: Chamber Music Works.
– Urtext from the ‘ Study Edition of the Works of Bedrich Smetana’
– Charming violin literature of medium technical difficulty
