These are piano pieces of many important figures of European Baroque music (H. Purcell, J.-Ph. Rameau, G. Ph. Telemann, J. Krieger, D. Zipoli) and particularly German Classicism (J. Ch. F. Bach, L. Mozart, J. Ph. Kirnberger, Ch. G. Neefe and others), of which most bear the titles of typical period dances. The selection therefore represents a highly appropriate repertoire of recital works.

Little is known about the origins of Debussy’s Pour le piano, only that the second movement Sarabande was written in 1894 and that the autograph carries the clear inscription »1901«.
As with the Suite bergamasque, Pour le piano was published first by Fromont in 1901, although Debussy did not grant him the full rights to the composition until 1905. This delay had most certainly to do with Debussy’s efforts to have Fromont transfer the rights to Pelléas et Mélisande to his new exclusive publisher Durand; in other words, Fromont was to own Pour le piano only if Durand owned Pelléas.
Bärenreiter’s new critical scholarly edition edited by Regina Back relies on all known sources, documenting the genesis of the composition, provides a detailed Critical Commentary and enlightens with its text passages on performance practice and Debussy’s piano music.

The solo cantata “ Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen ” , written around 1730 for the 15th Sunday after Trinity, is one of Bach’s best-known cantatas. The scoring for solo soprano, trumpet, strings and continuo is unique amongst Bach’s cantatas and has parallels with Italian composers of the period.
The enduring popularity of the work is due to the clear and succinct formal structure and not least to the virtuoso trumpet part and soprano arias, in which the soloists can demonstrate their total mastery. The cantata is published in a vocal score based on the “ New Bach Edition” with an idiomatic straightforward piano reduction by Martin Focke.
