The three-part edition contains all of Bach’s arrangements of other composers’ compositions. The arrangements were probably commissioned by Prince Johann Ernst of Saxony-Weimar around 1713/1714. The concert arrangements are evidence of Bach’s intensive involvement with the then new Italian concert art and its leading exponent, Antonio Vivaldi.
